About Us
What We Do
Since 1989, we have operated a short term emergency shelter that
serves abused, homeless victims of domestic violence and their
children.
The shelter provides victims with opportunities and experiences for
positive growth and development. The victims we serve come
from various backgrounds and are in need of special services to
assist them in overcoming the emotional trauma of living in homes
where abuse and violence is prevalent. Our programs prepare
our victims for independent living by offering them opportunities
that enhance their skills, knowledge and interest, and assist them
in becoming self sufficient, productive individuals. Residents
of our shelter receive 24 hour security, safety, safety planning,
legal advocacy, referrals for legal assistance, personal and
educational development, health, hygiene, and nutrition; job skills,
resume preparation, job seeking skills, life skills and independent
living, and career planning.
Our Mission
The mission of Options, Inc is to
provide comprehensive care, emergency shelter, and supportive
services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, and
sexual assault with a primary goal of assisting them to not just
survive but to thrive, becoming responsible self-sufficient members
of society.
Our History
Options, Inc was established in
1989, when the agency opened its first emergency shelter it was a
small 2 bedroom home for battered women and their children, it was
soon outgrown and was moved to it present location. In its
present location since 1991, the emergency shelter is located in
Monticello, AR and has provided safety to hundreds of victims.
Our
Residents
Annually, hundreds of victims of
domestic violence and sexual assault are a part of the court system
in this small southeastern part of Arkansas. Many have had to
flee their homes because of the physical and emotional abuse.
Their children have been removed from the homes for a variety of
reasons, including physical and emotional abuse, neglect,
homelessness, and other family dysfunctions such as substance abuse
by the perpetrator of the abuse or lack of financial resources. Many
of the residents are without permanent homes, jobs, job skills, or
education. Many are held in bondage by the perpetrator of
abuse and prevented from seeking or obtaining employment, education,
or financial aid for their family. If financial aid is
received in the form of food stamps or some type of check, the
perpetrator will take the food stamps sell them for drugs or use the
money for his needs, while the children wear rags and go hungry.
